I admit it, I love my MP3 player.

I listen to audio books, the Bible or rock to Aaron Sprinkle, Flyleaf and Switchfoot. With a few key strokes, I can even convert a chapter I’ve just finished into an MP3 and listen to it on the go.

Even if you don’t own an MP3 player, you can still enjoy music downloads and podcasts on your computer. If you are a writer, be sure to check out the Writing for Christian’s Podcast with W. G. Jones. It’s FREE & good for you too.

Last week, W. G. read a preview of his novel SOUL STEALERS and announced plans to podcast the whole book. He updates every Friday, but you can download anytime and listen at your convenience.

“No, I like it black.” I said.

Igg and Ook exchanged nervous glances, and handed me the cup. Ook’s sister caught my eye and shook her head ever so slightly.

They messed with my coffee?

The war is on!

Igg and Ook’s eyes met as I pretended my first sip. In the midst of Sunday School, I went to the coffee pot and pretended to pour more into my still full cup. I thought the pair would jump up and dance.

When the class was finished, the two boys shot out of my office. Ook’s sister stayed behind. I figured it was a dog-terd, but they dropped a few ex-lax pills into the grinder with the coffee beans. I was impressed; I’d under estimated those two.

After church, I called their moms to my office. They were so embarrassed. It was tempting to let it go, but where would the fun be in that? I asked if we could teach them with a little payback. Their lips twisted with satisfaction and we brought the dynamic duo in.

“Boys, I need to know if you did something to my coffee? I have allergies to certain drugs that could kill me.” (hey, I really do have allergies)

“Oh my, we didn’t think of that... Sorry Dave, we put ex-lax in your coffee. Will you be ok?”

“I’m fine, but this is the way it is. Your mothers and I agreed that payback is called for. You won’t know where or when, but its coming.”

They swallowed hard, nodded and marched out of my office under their mother’s icy gaze. Life can be so sweet. For the next few weeks, I offered them all kinds of tasty treats, but nothing happened. They were nervous wrecks.

It happened the weekend we went to Canada. Ook’s sister busied herself at my espresso machine, making Igg and Ook’s mocha’s under their worried and watchful eyes.

“Can I try a sip? It looks so good.” Ook’s sister set the hook that spelled her brother’s doom.

He nodded and both boys sighed with relief as she tipped up the cup. I almost cried, I was so proud of her.

The short trip to Canada took a little longer that day. By the smell of things, they didn’t quite make it between all the rest stops. I love my job.

This year I got Mrs. Curmudgeon something different for Valentine’s Day.

It all started at church a couple weeks ago. My wife returned from the bathroom just after the singing started. The poor old girl’s dress was tucked inside the back of her undies. It was great; the boys and I couldn’t stop laughing.

That’s when this old woman in the pew behind us smacked me on the back of my head. She pointed at my wife’s rump and signaled for me to fix her dress. I nodded and gave the dress a tug; but instead of a thank you, I got my toes stomped. I yelped, but nobody seemed to notice. I’m not much of a singer.

Last week as usual, my wife returned from the lady’s room just after the singing started. I looked at her backside, but her dress hung free. She glared at me as she picked up her hymnal and started singing.

What did I do now?

That’s when the old woman behind me gave me another whack on the back of my head. She pointed at my wife’s rump, nodded and smiled so sweetly. I understood at last; it must be a fashion thing. I reached over, grabbed a handful of her dress and tucked it in.

The hospital only kept me overnight. They are always so nice. I figured I better do something special for Valentines Day to make it up to her. Usually I buy her chocolates, but this year I got her a nice pantsuit, some soft-soled shoes and a six month supply of diet pills.

No, I’m not talking about the movie with all the squealing. Nope it’s not about those steaming hot pizzas (yeah right, steaming cold maybe) hand-delivered to our door. I’m not going to hit you over the head with the photo album that chronicled little Bubba’s birth.

I asked the Lord what He wanted me to write about today, and as I waited, my mind began to wander (nothing new here). I discovered a crumb on my keyboard from this morning’s bran muffin, popped it in my mouth and spat it out. That was no bran muffin.

That’s when it hit me. I asked the wrong question. I should have asked, “Lord, what are you up to today?” The answer came before the question left my lips.

“I’m setting the captive’s free.” He said.

“But I can’t do that!” I protested.

“That’s right... You can’t, but I can.”

“What do I have to do?”

“Turn your eyes on Me, instead of every Tom, Slick and Mary that did something to make you mad. Forgive them. Let it go. Pray blessings into their life. Spend a little time in the word and then come and talk to me for a while.”

“Cool, I’ll get right on it... Hey Lord, who are we going to deliver?”

“You’ve never met them, but someday they’ll pick up your book and...”

At last, you’ve laid your burdens down. No more tears and no more sorrows. You’ve gone home to the King of Kings. Free at last, free at last.

This month’s book is for the ladies. Ok, you guys can enjoy a good love story too; just make sure nobody’s watching. Either way, you’re going to love this book!

“Pink (Shades of Style)” by Marilynn Griffith, is a love story that will echo in your heart for years to come. “Raya” is a young fashion designer (she loves pink) who is determined to make it big in the Big Apple. She wasn’t looking for love, but it found her anyway when a handsome stranger whispered in her ear, “God loves you”!

You can find it at your local Christian bookstore, Christianbooks.com, Barnes & Noble, or at Amazon.com

Don’t forget to check out Marilynn’s website.
